INTERVENTION I: EARRL CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT- ECD

Strategic Objective 1: To Increase access to quality Early Learning and stimulation services for young children 0-8 in Kagera Region with policy links and holistic service delivery by 2020

  • To conduct baseline survey to determine number of children in need of kinder and pre- primary education
  • To conduct research and fact finding on the situation of kinder and pre- primary education in Kagera region
  • Procure and distribute education & playing materials to day care centers
  • Construction and renovation of day care centers
  • Construction of toilets and pit- latrines in Public and Community day care centers
  • Improvement and construction of play grounds in kinder and pre schools
  • To train Pre- school teachers on care and support of MVC, day care centre management and other pre-school related issues
  • To capacity building trainings on day care center management and pre- school teaching methodologies to the newly recruited pre- school teachers
  • To conduct capacity building training on day care management, roles and responsibility, networking, and collaborations to school committees
  • To conduct awareness creation meetings and stress the importance of kinder and pre-education to young children
  • To facilitate community and public school teachers with Para- professional course at Montessori Training College
  • To conduct community resources mobilization events for supporting ECD programs
  • To the identified most needy children from pre- school to primary and support them with school with school uniforms
  • Establishment of new day care centers

Strategic Objective 2: To increase community ownership and capacity to implement Early Childhood Development (ECD) programs and support children with disability

  • To conduct awareness creation meeting on the importance of Early Childhood Development to community through the use of multimedia approaches
  • To mobilize communities to establish day care centers
  • To mobilize community members to contribute crops during post harvesting period to support ECD programmes within their communities.
  • Procure and distribute IEC materials on ECD and protection

Strategic Objective 3: To improve the well-being of children 0-8 years and their care givers through promotion of nutrition and health at school and household level 

  • Purchase and distribute maize flour, beans and sugar to day care centers
  • Procure and distribute improved seeds to day care centers
  • Train caregivers on preparation of food mix and crop diversification
  • Train care givers and Para- professionals on nutrition package for young children
  • Train care givers on nutrition and parenting skills
  • Facilitating caregivers to establish home gardens
  • To conduct regular growth monitoring of young children, with focus on the underweight children using MUAC tapes
  • Support Malnourished children with therapeutically food
  • Provide basic  health and nutrition education to teachers and pre-school children (integrate health in school curriculum)
  • Establish vegetable gardens in all Day Care Centers
  • Sensitize community members on the importance of Community Health Funds (CIF) cards.

Strategic Objective 4: To Strengthened the capacity of District authorities and local implementing partners to mange ECD programs

  • To support LGAs Authorities to establish M&E systems
  • To facilitate LGAs to establish documentation and ECD data storage at ward and village levels
  • Train Social welfare and Community Development Officers on M&E systems
  • To support LGAs with M&E tools
  • Train LGAs Leaders, CSOs and ECD stakeholders on ECD information park
  • To conduct training on early child development to CSOs leaders, Social warfare, community development officers and other community leaders
  • To develop and distribute ECD handouts and materials
  • To conduct ECD Multi- sectoral meetings with Local Government  Authority Leaders and other children implementing partners
  • Train LGAs members and CSOs leaders on Right Based Approach (RBA) and Social Accountability
  • To conduct awareness creation on ECD to MVCCs, Pre- school teachers and LGAs
  • Facilitate LGAs to develop budgets for ECD activities and include them in the village action plans
  • To  train school committees and LGAs leaders on care taking skills, planning and management of ECD programs
  • To train school committees and LGAs leaders on data collection, monitoring and evaluation of ECD programs

 INTERVENTION II: CHILD LABOUR AND CHILD DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Strategic Objective 1: Prevention and elimination of all forms child labor and child exploitation to orphans and most vulnerable children households in Kagera region

  • To organize the district project inauguration meeting with LGAs and other stakeholders
  • To organize training to discuss child exploitation  issues with ward and village leaders and other stakeholders
  • To establish ward and village child protection task force
  • To organize TOT trainings on child protection LGAs, community groups  representatives and collaborating agencies
  • To conduct quarterly review meetings consultations among relevant agencies on mainstreaming of child labor issues into relevant policies and Programmes and integration in their activities.
  • To develop training materials on child labor and protection and distribute them the community, partners and use them as key materials for implementation of activities against child exploitation
  • To organize evaluation seminar of the project and identify further  objectives, tasks and resources to combat child exploitation
  • To document good practice and lessons leant of the project and share to other stakeholders
  • To develop printed materials, leaflets, newspapers to raise public awareness on child labor issues and to distribute them to public
  • To develop a short video documentary for advocacy about the situation of  child exploitation and share them with other stakeholders
  • To organize a public campaign and activities in observance of the World Day Against Child Labor
  • To support the identified and at risk needy vulnerable children with basic education and protection needs
  • To provide vocational skill training to working children and children at risk of child labor

Strategic Objective 2: To prevent child domestic violence through active involvement of parents/guardians and law enforcers to understand its causes and effects  in 8 districts of Kagera region

  • To conduct   mobilization workshop to district planners and other multi-stakeholders on human rights issues , gender equity , prevention of children rights violation  and GBV
  • To provide technical assistance through backstopping and supportive supervision sessions  to village, ward and district teams
  • To disseminate information, on GBV, children’s rights through multi media programmes in the community
  • Mass mobilization against  GBV, Humans rights violation and gender imbalance through sports
  • Train guardians/parents on child domestic violence

    INTERVENTION III: HIV/AIDS PREVENTION AND CARE

Strategic Objective: Prevention of new HIV infections/transmission among Key Vulnerable Populations from the current level through preventive and protective measures in Kagera Region, by December 2020.

  • Conduct sensitization meetings to Ward Mult sectoral AIDS Committees
  • Conducting  community mapping of hotspots, beneficiary hang-outs, and identification of potential stakeholders
  • Identification and selection for BCC Peer Educators in the target populations
  • To provide appropriate education on HIV prevention through selection and training of  community  groups such as  Youth Advisory  Groups (YAGs), Peer Educators (PE),  women and men groups,  HIV/AIDS community  committees, HIV/AIDS Multi stakeholders
  • To conduct initial training of peer educators as BCC facilitators (Gender, FP, Risk reduction and HIV related issues)
  • Training peer educators as BCC facilitators on facilitation skills

Strategic Objective: Improve economic status of Key Vulnerable Populations through various interventions in the designated project areas to serve as a platform to enable them to engage in positive lifestyles and become self-reliant by involving them in the integrated HIV prevention and livelihoods interventions.

  • To conduct program introductory meeting at the district, ward and village levels involving district heads of departments and ward Development Committees (WDC) members
